“When you buy a piece of vintage clothing you’re not just buying the fabric and thread – you’re buying a piece of someone’s past… ” – A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolff
Hi darlings, happy new month, happy new week! I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
The other day I saw this beautiful old woman. She looked about early 70s, had well looked after, blond hair in a bob style with a pale pink floral pin; she looked so focused at the boutique in front of her. I was standing just a few steps ahead wearing my sunglasses awaiting my friend and I couldn’t help but noticed the pearl earrings she was wearing, it had some wonderful bronze pink-like bold flowers around it… I then remembered my nan; I called her my nan, it was my grandfather’s friend. She looked after me loads, when my mother was at work; Was about 73 at the time, sadly passed away, years ago. She was very wise and one of the poshest person I ever knew, probably will ever know!
Everyday she had to make sure her hair was lush, weekly appointments to her best friend’s house saloon to get a perm and fresh blond colour for her hair, best hairdresser in the neighbourhood at that time. Always red lipstick on her lips. Oh my! Her jewellery drawer was exquisite such vintage pieces, pearls, silver, bronze and gold…; like I am one of those peoples that will look at something, try to visualize and study the way it’s made, where the artist was inspired by and all that from a really young age! Often I would go to her bedroom and open that specific drawer to just have a glance, admire the jewels and basically study them. There was this one time that she caught me wearing one of her earrings ( similar to the ones the old lady had ) she said to me, in Greek ”wait till you get older, you will not find these” LOL. She knew something; she spent a fortune on these during her youth, did I mention she was a model? A really beautiful one but still beautiful with wrinkles on her skin after years. Oh, all the fun times we had… I did, in fact, learn a few important things about life and style from her, which is probably where the rest of my fashion taste is coming from, that has really grown out of me and trust me it took a little while to realise that…!
And that’s the end of the story I guess, well that was intense… I really got carried away for a bit there. Coming back to that old lady, her outfit was just stunning, she had that nice purple and blue floral maxi skirt and cute shoes with flowers on them, I had to compliment her floral look! I was wondering how old her earrings were so I thought to get closer to ask, why not!? She told me ”darling, they’re as old as your age” and then we laughed, her response was sweet!
It’s really hard to find jewellery like that nowadays, these are a limited edition, really classic pieces, just like the rare vintage clothing. And that is why I dedicate this look to that classic era. Enjoy!
There is so much to explore, enjoy life!
We are all waiting for a seagull to fly by.. LOL
